When a student is ready for a new topic, the platform selects from a calibrated item bank (items sorted by difficulty) and uses an LLM to generate personalized hints ('You're close! Think about the formula for...') grounded in the student's current mastery.
The category felt dead after Knewton shut down in 2024, but the 2026 reality is different: LLMs make hint generation and explanation cheap, so the moat shifts from 'proprietary content' to 'knowledge-tracing accuracy + FERPA compliance.'
