How to style Webflow form inputs (borders, colors, focus states) to match a brand’s design?

Styling Webflow Form Inputs to Match a Brand's Design

Creating a cohesive and visually appealing form that aligns with your brand's aesthetics is crucial for user experience and brand consistency. This guide will walk you through a detailed process to style form inputs in Webflow, covering aspects like borders, colors, and focus states.

Prerequisites

  • A Webflow account with a project where you want to implement the form styling.
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Access to your brand's design guidelines, including color palettes and typography details.
  • An understanding of how Webflow Designer works, especially the styling options.

Accessing and Creating Form Elements in Webflow

  • Log into your Webflow account and navigate to your project dashboard.
  • Open the Webflow Designer and navigate to the page where you want your form to appear.
  • Drag and drop the Form Block from the Elements Panel onto your page canvas.
  • Your form block will contain default form elements like Input Fields, Submit Button, etc.

Customizing Form Inputs

  • Click on the input field you want to style to access its settings in the right-hand Styles panel.
  • Assign a unique class name to the form input (e.g., "brand-input") to apply custom styles.

Styling Borders

  • In the Styles panel, scroll down to the Borders section.
  • Set the border width according to your design preference, e.g., 1px for a subtle border.
  • Select the border style (solid, dashed, etc.) that matches your brand’s design.
  • Use your brand's primary or secondary colors to set the border color.

Adjusting Colors

  • Set the background color of the input fields to align with your brand's color scheme. For instance, a light gray or white for simplicity.
  • Change the text color by selecting the Typography section and setting a contrasting color for optimal readability.

Configuring Focus States

  • To style focus states (when an input is clicked or focused), click the dropdown beside your input’s class name in the Styles panel and select "Focused" from the State options.
  • Modify the border color for the focused state to a vivid color that highlights active selection, like a brighter shade of your brand color.
  • Change the box-shadow attribute to add subtle depth and indicate focus. For example, you can add a light shadow with an RGBA value for a soft effect.

Testing Form Input Styles

  • Once you've styled your inputs, use the Preview feature in Webflow to see how your designs look and function.
  • Interact with the inputs to ensure focus states are visible and the text is readable.
  • Verify on different devices by using the Webflow responsive modes to make sure settings are consistent across various screen sizes.

Finalizing and Publishing

  • Once satisfied, republish your site within Webflow to make your changes live.
  • Review your live site for any discrepancies and test the entire user flow.
  • Ensure that your designs align with your overall brand aesthetics and functions seamlessly.

By following these detailed steps, you can effectively style Webflow form inputs to maintain consistency with your brand’s design, ensuring both aesthetics and functionality resonate well with users.
