Using GraphQL in FlutterFlow projects involves integrating GraphQL APIs into your application to manage data more efficiently. Below is a detailed guide that explains how to implement GraphQL in FlutterFlow applications.

 

Prerequisites

 

  • Ensure you have a FlutterFlow account and a project ready for integration with GraphQL.
  • Basic understanding of GraphQL concepts such as queries, mutations, and schemas is essential.
  • An existing GraphQL endpoint available for your use.

 

Setting Up FlutterFlow for External APIs

 

  • Log in to your FlutterFlow account and open the desired project where you want to integrate GraphQL.
  • Navigate to the API Calls section in the left menu to manage API integrations.

 

Creating a GraphQL API Call

 

  • Click on Create API Call and select the REST API since FlutterFlow currently does not have native GraphQL support. However, you can construct GraphQL queries within a REST API structure.
  • Enter the base URL of your GraphQL API endpoint.
  • In the Request Method, select POST, as GraphQL operations typically use POST requests.

 

Configuring Headers and Body

 

  • Navigate to the Headers tab and add necessary headers, such as Content-Type: application/json and any authorization tokens needed for your API.
  • In the Body tab, switch to JSON (application/json) format. This is where you will input your GraphQL queries/operations.
  • Enter your GraphQL query using JSON format, for example:

Parsing GraphQL Responses

 

  • After setting up the API call, specify the expected response format in the Test & Set Response tab.
  • Click on Convert JSON to Map to generate a schema. Map the fields from your GraphQL response to corresponding variables in FlutterFlow.

  • To use the GraphQL data in your FlutterFlow application, connect API calls to widgets.
  • Select a widget you want to populate with data from the GraphQL API and navigate to the Properties Panel.

  • To perform mutations, create a separate API call similar to queries but with mutation formatted in the JSON body.
